Hattie Hubbard was the fourth child of seven siblings born on May 5, 1926, to Joe and Georgia Ford
in Tunica Mississippi. Both parents preceded her in death.
She was a very loving and caring child growing up. Her brothers and sister fondly referred to her as “Lil’l
Sis.” She was very devoted to the needs of her older sister, Retha, who was diagnosed with polio at an early
age.
At nine years old, she was so filled with the Holy Ghost that it took several persons to contain Hattie as
she confessed her hope in Christ—the confident, joyful, and certain expectation of future good based on
God’s promises, specifically regarding salvation and eternal life through Jesus—which served to keep her
anchored through one of the most challenging stages of her life.
Later in life, Hattie met Jesse in Tunica, Mississippi. Per Jesse Hubbard, he was immediately smitten. The
relationship developed into love, and they later became husband and wife.
The couple eventually settled in Chicago, Illinois, where they joined Union Missionary Baptist Church.
There Hattie served as usher, president of usher board, choir member, and was a part of several fundraising
committees.
In Chicago, they raised six children, Katie Mae, Vanessa, Jesse, Kim, Renae, and Verdie. The house was
always filled with an abundance of love, laughter, singing, worship, and few spankings.
Hattie and Jessie were separated only by his death in the year of 2013. She was also preceded in death
by her son, Jesse Hubbard, Jr.; grandchildren, Steven Hubbard, Cherie Hansen, and Jamal Hubbard;
siblings, Sam, Joe, Retha, John, Hal, and Walter.
The Lord called her home on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 8:50 PM.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her daughters, Katie M. Jones of Austin, TX, Vanessa Robinson (the
late Benton L.) of Chicago, IL, Kim Bolhar (Tim Sr.) of Chicago, IL, Renae Hubbard of Rockford, IL, and
Verdie L. Hubbard of Loves Park, IL; goddaughter, Lisa Williams of Albany, GA; fifteen grandchildren,
thirty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and family friends.
